Merchant & Gould, one of the nation's premier intellectual property law firms, is seeking an experienced Patent Agent for its Chemical/Life Sciences practice area. This position can be located in any of our existing markets.
The position will involve patent preparation, prosecution, and global portfolio management: drafting patent applications, oral and written communication with clients (inventors, in-house counsel, tech transfer offices, etc.), analyzing prior art, analyzing USPTO Office Actions, and developing and writing persuasive arguments in response to Office Actions both in the U.S. and abroad.
The ideal candidate will have strong academic credentials, a Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, etc.), and a sound understanding of antibody technology.

Our Patent Agent compensation structure has two components: (1) a base salary (based on a 1600 billable hour target) and (2) a discretionary merit bonus based on performance.
